Al mattino, vidi una conchiglia sulle rive del fiume.

Le sue ciglia versavano lacrime 

che cadevano nei cuori degli abitanti del villaggio.

Il suono del vento, 

come gocce di pioggia danzanti sulle foglie.

Durante le tempeste, 

i venti soffiano impetuosi e il Babui (uccello) trova rifugio.

Quando arriva la pioggia, 

gli abitanti del villaggio canticchiano e danzano ondeggiando con canti sulle labbra.

Da Philip Nagar, Baghaira (pesce) giunse alla riva rocciosa di Patharghata.

Se tu non ci sei, 

i pesci profumati non vengono nelle profonde pozze di Baroshitola.

Recitando il tuo nome, 

il fiume scorre senza fine.

Nelle pinne svolazzanti dei pesci, 

il loro tributo svanisce;

 Cala la notte, e nella mia mente penso intensamente a come legare il fiume,

Così il colpo del pesce si infrange in mezzo all'acqua.

In the morning, I saw a seashell by the banks of the River.

Its eyelashes shed tears that fall in the hearts of the villagers, 

The sound of the wind, as if dancing raindrops on the leaves. 

During storms, the winds blow fiercely, and the Babui (bird) find refuge.

When the rain comes, the villagers hum and sway with songs on their lips.

From Philip Nagar, Baghaira (Fish) arrived at the rocky bank in Patharghata. 

If you aren't there, the fragrant fish don't come to the deep ponds of Baroshitola.

By chanting your name, the river flows endlessly.

In the fish's fluttering fins, their tribute fades away; 

Darkness falls, then, in my mind, I think intensely of binding the river, 

So the fish's strike is shattered in the midst of the water.

Leaving home at dawn, I search for the spotted bird;

Guided by the conch shell, I catch a tiny fish,

Swiftly passing through the water, and reaching the depths of the river. 

The fish celebrate and proclaim the name of the thirteen hundred Rivers;

The whirl of the bird mesmerizes, as the city of the underwater rises,

The fish stir the water with their eyes.

Mahfuz Ripon was born on December 31, 1983, in Muksudpur Upazila, Gopalganj, Bangladesh. His father was the heroic freedom fighter Haji Abdul Hakim, and his mother was Romecha Begum. He obtained an Honours degree in Geography and Environmental Science from Government Rajendra University College and a Master's degree from Dhaka College. Published poetry collections: `Bisarjaner Nishikabya’ (2014), `Jalkadar Ghran’ (2018), `Karamjaler Naiya’ (2020), `Maidyaner Dukhkho’ (2021); Anthologies: `Shai Kabbo’ (2022), `Tin Taser Manush’ (2024); Short story collection: `Marbhater Golpo’ (2019); Children's story collections: `Tiffin Polatok’ (2024), `Anugalper Ghora’ (2025). Literature related Drama `Nashlila, Kumar Parer PoranKotha and Mhjib Coat. He edits the little magazine `Batting zone’.
